Surinder Singh Sunner was born on January 1, 1953, into a humble family in Punjab, India, to parents S. Karam Singh and Mohinder Kaur. After completing his graduation in 1973 from Government College, Kapurthala, he earned a Master’s degree in Punjabi in 1975 from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. His journey to success took a bold turn when he moved to California in June 1983, where he pursued a diploma in business management in 1985. Starting with the purchase of his first liquor store in April 1988, Surinder expanded his horizons by obtaining a real estate license in 1990, eventually becoming a major player in Southern California’s retail market. In 1993, he received an award for being the largest independent retailer in the region.
Beyond his entrepreneurial achievements, Surinder has made a profound impact as an author and poet. He is the author of 12 books, with nine written in Punjabi and three in English, showcasing his deep connection to his heritage and the power of the written word. As the former owner of Sunner Investments LLC and Sunner Properties Inc., and now the owner of SS Sunner Investments LLC, he has cemented his legacy in both the business world and literary circles. Yet, despite his remarkable accomplishments, Surinder remains deeply grounded in his roots as an agricultural farmer, never losing touch with the simple life that continues to inspire his poetry.
